SLL: Qu-Rocca
The Elevenfold Monument, erected 1388 on the Island of Disconsolate Communion, commemorates the accomplished Qu-Rocca, who today hangs high above the Tower of Tongues, locked in the battle which is the Five Men War.
Qu-Rocca actively avoided the political authority of the Warpless Circle and appeared within the Tower of Tongues only during Days of Obligation; hers was a life dedicated to the advancement of her knowledge of the function of the world, not to the enrichment of her personal power. Though the famed ascetic Hel-Morrid followed her example, the two never met.
Much of Qu-Rocca’s career remains unknown, but by DY 248 she was known as the Mother Countries’ greatest expert on zoeticism and the allied field of nature-magic. Though not herself a practitioner of that minor magic, Qu-Rocca did author Some Notes on Magic, today considered the authoritative resource on ancient thaumaturgical theory.
Her best-known achievement, and that lauded by the Elevenfold Monument, was her discovery and limited exploration of the Celestial Firmament, an expedition cut short by her encounter with the Smelter of Souls.
